Since 17 December 2014, 7 Southern provinces of Thailand have been experiencing severe flooding due to heavy rains. The provinces are Surat Thani, Songkhla, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phattalung, Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala, covering more than 1.53 million hectares of NR plantation area, equivalent to 43% of total NR plantation area in Thailand.

The flood is the worst flood ever experienced in Narathiwat province since the last 20 years and the heavy flooding in Golok River (Sungai Golok) has expanded to Northern east-coast State of Kelantan, Peninsular Malaysia.

As these provinces in Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia are main NR plantation area, the heavy flooding would affect NR production in this region in the coming weeks. The reduction in NR production from this area could support NR price in the following weeks.
